Evangel University
Springfield, MO

Completed in 1997, Evangel University’s new academic building features well-equipped business classrooms, science labs and lecture halls, all of which provide an environment conducive to learning, attracting potential students and communicating to others that Evangel is an institution worthy of note and support.

This new academic building was the first major project that evolved from the campus master plan prepared by a team under the leadership of Allen Casey. The planning process incorporated substantial input from the college’s administrators, department heads, faculty and students.

The 72,000-sq-ft facility contains more than 20 classrooms, lecture halls and conference rooms equipped with up-to-date computer and audio-video capabilities. In addition to a recital hall on the first floor, the third floor Science and Technology Department includes a large greenhouse, additional classrooms, and research rooms. Two major lobbies provide informal meeting areas for students to gather and study between classes. The facility houses four of Evangel's ten academic departments.

Founded on the site of the former O'Reilly Army Hospital, Evangel College opened for classes in the fall of 1955. Scores of buildings that had served as hospital wards, surgical suites, offices, and activity centers were adapted for educational purposes. From the beginning, however, plans were made for permanent structures to be erected to more adequately serve a growing student body. In 1992, the college administration began planning for fund-raising and construction of the new academic facility.
